This is a step by step guide on how to update your uPVC windows by giving it a coat of paint without needing costly replacements.

Begin by gathering all items you will need, this includes a ladder, paint, tape to protect your window glass, cloths, warm water, sandpaper, a dust mask, goggles and primer. 

Firstly, any window furniture attached should be removed to ensure a clean application and that there is no transfer made. You can then apply tape around all your windows and surrounding areas to prevent any paint from touching the glass or the walls of your home.

Next, take the time to clean the surface and the frames thoroughly with soapy water to remove any dirt and grease. Whilst cleaning, ensure that all dust particles are removed to provide a dry, smooth surface for application. Using sandpaper or a wire brush, key the uPVC surface to create a rough surface for the paint to adhere to. This will ensure you have a flat, or even surface that the paint will easily stick to.

As a tip, wipe away all dust from your sandpaper before continuing. You can then use an all-surface primer to cover your frames, giving an even application and letting it dry. This will help to improve the appearance and durability of your paint. Making sure to wear your dust mask and protective goggles, start applying on your windows once you have chosen your desired paint. Manufacturers have created a wide range of different paint colours, types and finishes while we recommend you use spray paint, there are a variety of paint brands you can select from. You will need to apply about three even coats for the best results but ensure that the paint has dried between each layer.
